# Build on Kustomer

> What you can build on the Kustomer platform, how the pieces fit together, and where to start.

Source: https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/get-started

Kustomer is a customer service platform built around a single timeline per customer: every conversation, message, order and event lands on one record. The developer platform exposes that same data model through a REST API, real-time events, an apps platform and embeddable chat SDKs.

This site covers all of it, for engineers and for the AI tools they work with. Every page has a Markdown version, the whole site is summarized in [`/llms.txt`](https://developer.kustomer.com/llms.txt), and every API operation has its own Markdown page in the [API reference](https://developer.kustomer.com/api).

## What you can build

- [Sync data in and out](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/guides/sync-customers-from-crm): Keep customers, companies and orders in step with your CRM, warehouse or commerce stack using the REST API and bulk endpoints.
- [React to changes](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/events): Subscribe to events such as `kustomer.conversation.update` and push them to your systems with outbound webhooks.
- [Automate support](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/workflows): Build event-driven workflows with conditions, expressions, REST calls and code steps that run inside Kustomer.
- [Ship an app](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/apps): Package custom objects, timeline views, workflows and settings into an installable app definition.
- [Embed chat](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/chat): Add Kustomer Chat to your website, iOS, Android or React Native app with the chat SDKs.
- [Work with AI](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/ai): Drive Kustomer from scripts and AI agents with the `kusty` CLI and MCP server, and feed these docs to your tools.

- **REST API.** Everything an agent can see or do is a resource: customers, conversations, messages, custom objects, users, queues, knowledge base articles and settings. Base URL `https://<your-org>.api.kustomerapp.com`.
- **Events.** Every create and update emits an event named `kustomer.<object>.<action>`. Workflows consume them inside Kustomer, and outbound webhooks deliver them to you.
- **Apps.** An app definition is a JSON document that bundles Klasses (custom object types), KViews (UI views), workflows, settings and webhooks so you can install them into any org.
- **Chat SDKs.** Native and web SDKs that put Kustomer Chat inside your product and identify signed-in customers.

## Start here

#### Create an API key

In Kustomer, go to **Settings › Security › API Keys** and add a key with the roles your integration needs. See [API keys and roles](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/get-started/api-keys-and-roles).

#### Make your first call

Follow the [quickstart](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/get-started/quickstart) to read your org, create a customer and open a conversation in about five minutes.

#### Learn the data model

Read [Data model overview](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/concepts/data-model) to see how customers, conversations, messages and custom objects relate.

#### Pick a guide

Jump to a [guide](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/guides) for the integration you're building, or browse the [API reference](https://developer.kustomer.com/api).

> **Using an AI assistant?:** Point it at [`/llms.txt`](https://developer.kustomer.com/llms.txt) for a map of the site or [`/llms-full.txt`](https://developer.kustomer.com/llms-full.txt) for every page in one file. Any docs URL also works with a `.md` suffix. The [Docs for AI](https://developer.kustomer.com/docs/ai/docs-for-ai) page explains each format.
